What a difference a week makes - after last week's heatwave, the Green Army had to contend with cold wind and rain showers this morning, as well as their fourth-placed opponents from Graaf Willem. The conditions made for an exciting game as the play moved from end to end, with both teams playing some great football and creating plenty of goal scoring chances.
Alfie's dad took on the coaching duties this week, assisted by one of his friends from the UK - Gavin is a football expert, having close connections with such teams as Arsenal, Manchester Utd and Wrexham, and he was very impressed with what he watched (Jet in midfield was his pick for the best player today).
Thanks also to Micha and Max's fathers, for refereeing and running the line respectively - not an easy job today as the Graaf Willem coach had quite a lot to say about several of their decisions...
Great credit to our team today - they faced a hard-working opposition, who, although they were small, were very determined and kept running for the full 70 minutes - at times in the second half, it almost felt impossible to get out of our own half of the field! We used all our strength, fighting hard to defend our goal, and used the speed of Koen and the power of Micha on the counterattack to score our three goals, which was enough to see us home by a score of 3-2. Robert did well again in goal, handling the ball safely in difficult conditions, and Koen scored two great goals on his 'debut' but the team's vote for Man of the Match this week went to Cas, who was brilliant in central defence, using his speed to get us out of
trouble on countless occasions and making dozens of tackles and interceptions. Great job Cas Smile
Three more points gives us four wins and moves us up to 12 points - with this win, we moved ahead of Graaf Willem to fourth place in the standings. It was nerve-wracking at times - but the team stuck together, played for each other and deserved the victory. Well done everyone!
